2019 was a year that saw a wide range of challenges and emotions for the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office. We are excited to have completed construction of the new Public Safety Facility. All our functions on the West Slope, except the Jails, are now housed in one location. This project, started in 2011, has seen the involvement of our employees and many county agencies. Our team functioned smoothly in delivering a quality facility designed to serve the needs of our citizens for many decades to come and was completed on time and under budget.
In 2019 we suffered the tragic loss of Deputy Brian Ishmael. Brian was murdered while responding to a call to protect our citizens. We continue to grieve his loss and to support the Ishmael family. We want to thank all of you for your continued support as we work through this difficult time. Brian exemplifies the quality of our employees who daily provide service to El Dorado County.
This year we continued to expand our Homeless Outreach services, entering into a partnership with the Placerville Police Department. We continue to be successful in reducing chronic homelessness in our county. We have also expanded our services to the mentally ill, seeking to provide trusted and effective services to this vulnerable population. We also expanded our School Resource Officer program to provide a safe learning environment in our high schools and middle schools.
As we move into 2020, we will continue to be challenged by new laws and requirements that will stretch our limited resources. However, our commitment remains to provide total care to our citizens.
