Although they are not deputized, the Posse is
in place to assist the Sheriff and Sheriff's Office
in a time of need. This past year, the Posse
made donations to the Sheriff's Explorers Post
457, Sierra Law Enforcement Chaplaincy and
the Peace Officer's Memorial Fund.
In turn, each of these non-profit groups has assisted the Posse in some manner benefiting
the Sheriff's Office. The Posse is also
enthusiastic about their scholarship program
that is open to graduating seniors whose
parents are employed by the Sheriff's Office.
The Posse is an integral part of the support mechanisms here at the Sheriff's Office and the Posse members are very proud of their organization and what it represents.
First established in 1985, the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office Air Squadron consists of volunteer members, many of which are active pilots assisting the department in various operations. The squadron is an all volunteer group that works with liaisons from within the Sheriff's Office.
Squadron pilots donate their time and use of their aircraft to assist the Sheriff's Office in carrying out vital tasks. Members assist with investigations by providing surveillance flights, often related to illegal drug cases. They also assist with new deputy orientation by providing an aerial view of the county.
These volunteers provide transport for the Sheriff, his deputies, witnesses and other personnel for a variety of official needs. In addition to remaining available for use during emergencies, natural disasters and select Search and Rescue operations.
These volunteers have provided invaluable
cost savings to the county. We cannot thank
them enough for their assistance!
