SAC SPORTS Baseball Winning Streak Ends at 10 BY DORIAN ZAVALA THE DONS ARE ROLLING THROUGH THE COMPETITION IN PRE-CONFERENCE PLAY L ed by sophomore infielder Derek Sims and freshmen outfielder Austin Bartlett, the Dons are off to a fast start winning 12 of its first 14 games. Santa Ana College has outscored its opponents an average of 3.5 runs per game, with Bartlett on a hot streak batting .435 and driving in 17 runs. Sims, from Brea High, is batting .421 and drove in nine-RBI’s and stole two bases. The Dons start Orange Empire Conference play tomorrow with a three-game series versus Irvine Valley College at 2 p.m. “We are hungry for conference play to start. No one on the team is worried about the two losses we have, that was just us playing bad baseball,” Sims said. As a team, the Dons are batting an average of .316 with an on-base percentage of .415. “The amount of flexibility on this team is unreal, we trust everyone in the dugout to get the job done,” Sims said. Solid performances by sophomore pitchers Josh Haley and Cade Nash have kept the Dons in tight games, contributing to the its early-season success. Haley has had the most outings, logging 36 and 2/3 innings with a 3.19 ERA. Nash has pitched 14 innings and has an impressive 1.29 ERA and is averaging nine strikeouts per game and hold opponents to a paltry .200 batting average. Over 14 games, the Dons have scored 113 runs, making them a tough out for opponents.
