Teams Have Talent But No Results
College is challenging, but
playing a sport, studying for
class and holding a job is
harder and being an athlete at
a community college where
the student body doesn't
know you exist is harder still.
Our college was once
known for winning
championships, but lately,
the school has fallen into
a slump. It's not like SAC's
athletic teams don't have
talent, there are many skilled
athletes here. As Sports editor
for el Don, my writers and I
cover multiple games a week,
and we know how committed
players and coaches are to his
or her respective team. This
institution has great coaches,
but the losses shouldn't
land solely on them. They
do everything in their power
to prepare student-athletes
to compete. Indeed, some
of the blame falls on the
athletes to execute on the
fi eld. But, that's only part of
the equation. It's challenging
to perform your best and
remain disciplined when
only a handful of fans are
there cheering for you. These
athletes don't play for money
or for glory; they compete
for the love of sport. SAC's
athletes deserve better than
playing to empty stands.
Like everyone else here, a
little cheer of support and a
helping hand goes a long way
towards a successful outcome.
We are all Dons, and we
should all show some pride
and support our teams as the
only name on the uniform is
Santa Ana College.
