Paintsville Tigers advance
all "A" state
PIKEVILLE, Ky. - The Paintsville Tigers advanced to the Touchstone Energy All "A" Baseball Sectional round Friday, defeating Betsy Layne, 11-3, in the 15th Region Championship game.
Taylor Miller (Jr.) picked up the win, allowing two runs on two hits while striking out eight and walking only one.
A quartet of Tigers each knocked in two runs,
Ben Daniels (8th) finished 1-4 with two RBI. Gabe Burchell (Jr.) went 2-4 with two RBI. Luke Daniels (Jr.) was 1-4 with two RBI, a double and a run scored. Sophomore Ryan Murray led the Tigers charge, finishing 1-2 with two RBI and three runs scored.
The Tigers reached the title game by defeating Shelby Valley, 5-4, in their first-round game and Allen Central, 12-0, in a five-inning affair in the regional semi-finals. Betsy Layne, knocked off South Floyd, 15-2, in five innings in their opening-round game and pulled the upset over Sheldon Clark, 9-6, in a semi-final matchup.
