Cell Phone and Personal Device Expectations
III. Student Responsibilities
Overview: Enfield High School prohibits the use of cell phones and other personal smart devices in the classroom during the class period. This is to improve student focus, academic achievement, and wellbeing. Student misuse of cell phones in the classroom negatively impacts their ability to focus and succeed in the classroom. Rationale: While technology can be an excellent tool for supporting authentic learning experiences, we are finding that inappropriate use of personal devices can be detrimental to student wellbeing and academic performance.
EHS Cell Phone / Personal Device Rules & Regulations ➔ Use of personal cell phones and devices are permitted during passing time and during students’ assigned lunch period. ➔ Use of personal cell phones, headphones, and other personal devices are not permitted during class time. This includes when the student uses the pass during class time. ➔ Personal cell phones and devices should be out of sight during class time.
Acceptable Use of AI Guidelines Artificial Intelligence is an emerging technology that poses unique opportunities and challenges for learning. Artificial Intelligence( AI) tools may support student learning when used appropriately. While AI can be incredibly helpful on some assignments, others are designed specifically to assess a student’ s original thinking, voice, and problem-solving skills. Therefore, AI use will not always be permitted. The following guidelines outline acceptable use and expectations for academic integrity, privacy, and responsible behavior: 1. Educators will communicate classroom-specific expectations related to AI-use 2. Educators will communicate which AI resources are approved by the district for student use. 3. Students must abide by the educator and / or course expectations for use of AI. Students may not use AI for the completion of assignments unless specifically permitted by the teacher.
4. AI should not be used to generate, replace, or rewrite content in a way that compromises academic integrity. Using AI without disclosure may be considered plagiarism. Disclosure and citations must follow educator and / or course guidelines. 5. Staff and students should never input confidential or personal information into any AI system. 6. No student or educator should input any other person’ s personal information, intellectual property, or image into AI systems.
7. Students may be subject to disciplinary consequences and / or corrective action if they misuse AI. Corrective action will reflect a growth mindset and include an educational component. Improper use of AI tools may result in: a. Grade penalties or loss of credit b. Loss of retake or resubmission opportunities c. Required re-education on responsible AI use d. Disciplinary action under the school’ s academic and behavioral policies e. Parent contact and / or conference
