Fitzgerald had always loved art since she was a young girl . “ I remember as a child in elementary school I had so much fun in art class and I can remember the projects I created in it .” Rebecca said .
Rebecca Fitzgerald made her final decision to become an art teacher in her senior year of high school . “ When I was applying to colleges … I made sure that I applied to colleges that had an art education program .” Fitzgerald said . She later graduated from Montserrat School of Art in 2013 .
Now after 5 full year years of teaching at Enfield High School , she claims her favorite part of being a teacher is , “ being able to connect with my students and have positive relationships .”
After speaking to some of Fitzgerald ’ s students , it seems as though those positive relationships have been put in action . Taytem Larusso , a student in Rebecca ’ s 1 st period drawing and painting class said , “ she always walks around the classroom and asks people how their weekends were , and or how they are doing .” Taytem also said , “ She talks to you like you ’ re a real person and not just a student .”
When another student , Maddie Whitten , was asked if Mrs . Fitzgerald had been helpful to her inside and outside of the classroom , she responded , “ Yes , because she was always a teacher that it wasn ’ t uncomfortable to talk to and she really cares about her students and if you respect her she will respect you .”
Though Rebecca tries to connect with each of her students , she still finds it challenging to build strong bonds with all of them .
