Egypt's Revolt Egypt's Revolt | Page 2

Recently, Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi was overthrown by the Egyptian military because they discovered Morsi’s ties to the Muslim brotherhood. The Muslim brotherhood is an organization that is considered a terrorist organization by the Russian and the Egyptian government. Morsi is currently being held in a military prison. In response, members of the Muslim brotherhood are rioting in the streets. Some members of the muslim brotherhood are being killed for supporting the brotherhood since they are considered a threat to the Egyptian government. Most of Morsi's supporters are rebelling against the police and that is what is getting them killed. The members that aren't rebeling or provoking the police are being arrested (CNN World 2014).

El-Sisi, the commander of the Egyptian military called for early presidential and parliamentary elections, after this announcement supporters of Morsi got angry at him and broke stones and piled them up to insult El-Sisi. They danced around the pile chanting, “Sisi is void! islam is coming! we will not leave!” (Al Jazeera 2013). Since the announcement made that Morsi was overthrown members of the muslim brotherhood and supporters of morsi all around have been rebelling against the military. Eight people died in the northern city of Marsa Matrouh, three people died and over 50 were injured in Alexandria, Three people died and 14 wounded in the southern city of Minya and many more injured in Fayoum, a city south of Cairo (Al Jazeera, 2013). With the injuries people also looted some of the Muslim brotherhoods offices.

Since the Muslim Brotherhood elected Mohamed Morsi they have been practically in power for all of these years and now they have lost all of that power and they will not be allowed to participate in any upcoming elections. Many of the members are in jail right now and being killed or arrested for participating in riots or protests since they have been declared a terrorist organisation. The government has announced that any members of the muslim brotherhood participating in any protest of any kind will be arrested on the spot, yet they keep protesting despite all the threats coming from the military and the government.

El-Sisi will run for president in the upcoming election and if he doesn't the Egyptian people will be very upset and he doesn't really have a choice to run or not because if he doesn't run he will bad feedback from other people and that would affect his popularity and reputation (CNN World 2014). This could potentially lead to him being looked upon as weak or unrespectable and if the commander of the military is looked upon as weak it could definitely lead to problems.
