[P R O D U C T REVIEW ] TRIED SCARFACE VIDEO SLOT Foviance’s Catriona Campbell casts her expert usability eyes overNet Entertainment’s latest branded video slot game TESTED & S carface was one of the most successful ?lms of the 1980s with critics often pointing to one of Al Pacino’s most memorable roles with probably his best one-liner: ‘say hello to my little friend’, as well as an intense death scene. So, with so many wellknown ?lm and television titles transferred to the gambling, why not do the same with such a seminal movie? Net Entertainment has again partnered with Universal to develop Scarface and has widely franchised the market in this area with its other Frankenstein slot launched last year among much acclaim. So how is Scarface different to other slots? Scarface is a ?ve-reel, 20 line payout video slot complete with wild cards and three bonus games as well as boasting audio and video from the ?lm; something that will take you back to 1980s Miami with Pacino playing Tony Montana, a tough Cuban immigrant who takes over a drug cartel and who eventually pays the price for gangland power. Bonus features The reels have been well branded and Pacino is instantly recognisable as Montana. There are three bonus games; Nudge Spins, Free Spins, both self explanatory, as well as the famous Tony Montana shoot-out. In the latter you know Tony won’t make it alive but everyone he takes out wins you more coins, while the Free Spins segment launches a seductive Michelle Pfeiffer video clip asking you to dance and Nudge Spins automatically deploys the nudges. The slots skin is rich in functionality and the reviewers enjoyed it. Interestingly, the bonus game was divisive; those who liked it loved it – the shot-shy were not as enamoured. But as the name Scarface suggests, its not Disney. The more experienced slot players liked the 20 lines, quick spin, ability to win big, as well as the simplicity of the game. Players who already knew Net Entertainment could immediately play and customise sett ings. For beginners, however, they found that having help under the ‘Paytable’ didn’t make sense and they suggested it would have been better placed elsewhere. NetEnt has set out to replicate the Scarface experience and has delivered an essence of the intensity of the movie. Slots players and fans alike will enjoy reliving their 80s Miami lifestyle through Scarface slots, another platinum success story.
