[D ATA ] KEY STATISTICS H 2 I N T E R A C T I V E P O K E R D ATA I N D E P T H Following Governor Chris Christie’s conditional veto last month, H2 examines the egaming market potential of the US state of New Jersey that could not only lead to a 10-year regulatory trial, but also be the catalyst for other landbased gaming states to embrace a new online industry. And with Dutch regulators currently working on draft regulation H2 also give us an early snapshot of what the market could look like. ONLINE POKER GROWTH Online poker has continued its strong run into 2013 with January recording the ?fth consecutive month of YoY growth as average real-money player numbers hit 113,800. This was 7.9% ahead sequentially and 13.8% ahead YoY, the latter being the highest rate for a number of years. Average player levels were at their strongest since April 2011, the month of Black Friday, though levels are still around 13% lower prior to that time. However, with the prospect of onshoreregulated activity in a number of states in the coming years it will not be too long before the interactive poker sector is once again setting new records. H2’s preliminary interactive poker DOT.C OM INTER ACTIVE P O K E R K P IS CASH GAME PLAYERS BY STAKE AVERAGE REAL MONEY PLAYER NUMBERS Ring games and tournaments 2012 gross win numbers are €2.84bn, a 7.7% fall on 2011, however H2 now expects the interactive poker gross win to advance to approximately €3.2bn in 2013 and €3.5bn in 2014. Beyond this, much will depend on the pace of regulation but early signs are that 2015 could see the product vertical surpassing the €4bn mark with €5bn possible by 2018. As at 31 January 2013 the H2PI stood at 3,505, 2.7% down on the level at 30 December. H2 still believes that the 4,500 mark is likely in 2013. In the near term it expects the index to top out at between 3,700 and 3,800 as the sector sees its annual seasonal peak at some point in either February or March.
