EDITOR'S LETTER The year’s got off to a bang. Even Ladbrokes’ CEO Richard Glynn has mentioned the word “renaissance”. Naturally with a company whose online division has seen revenues decline to almost 2009 numbers, this is not going to happen quickly, but with the investment it is making in its own proprietary trading, ecommerce and mobile platforms as well as a new sportsbook, this could well materialise, as promised, later in 2012. The real sign for me that investor sentiment has picked up (see p28) in gaming following a bruising 18 months that has seen some publicly listed stocks fall by more than 50% – or in 888’s case 82% from September 2008 until earlier last year – has been the ?urry of analyst notes virtually all suggesting buy recommendations. Unibet, 888, Rank and not forgetting Ladbrokes, have all shown positive signs of turning their respective businesses around after a number of years in the doldrums. Unibet is re-entering France after acquiring Sol?ve, has bought Betchoice (see p9) in Australia and is broadening its regulated reach to Belgium, Spain and Denmark; 888 has seen phenomenal results from the introduction of its Poker six platform, focus on its core product verticals and a concerted in-house marketing push; while Rank has reawakened from its slumber and is in discussions with Gala to acquire its casinos. This is also the case for one of the industry’s largest suppliers GTECH G2 (see p46) that, after ?ve integrations in the last ?ve years, now has a new CEO who is determined to ful?l the ?rm’s potential and reclaim the leading position it once had. Long may it continue. eGaming Review is published monthly by Pageant Media, 1 East Poultry Avenue London, EC1A 9PT ISSN 1742-2450 Printed by The Manson Group © 2012 all rights reserved.
