F E A T U R E 2012 he ninth annual eGaming Review Operator Awards took place at The Roundhouse in London in November, bringing together operators and industry professionals to celebrate the excellence achieved in the online gaming industry during the past 12 months. Hosted by Scottish comedian Kevin Bridges, 27 awards were dished out in an evening of glitz and glamour with 888 scoring a hat-trick of wins for casino operator, poker operator and the headline operator of the year. The company was a big hit with the judges, having demonstrated strong growth in European regulated markets during 2013, especially in poker and casino, as well as establishing an enviable foothold in the US. Irish operator Paddy Power wasn’t to be outdone, however, as it too scooped three awards for slots operator, social marketing campaign and financial betting product of the year. The other headline award went to William Hill chief executive Ralph Topping, who claimed the prestigious outstanding contribution award (sponsored by Evolution) for his exceptional impact on the online gambling industry. Bet365 landed sports operator and in-play sports operator of the year after being edged out by last year’s operator of the year winner SkyBet for the mobile sportsbook award. Meanwhile, newcomer Casumo, a firm which is out to crack the social-RMG convergence model, went home with the 2013 rising star award, and Gamesys had another successful night, taking home the prizes for customer services operator and social bingo product of the year Tombola was another double award winner, with CEO Phil Cronin walking away holding the socially responsible and bingo operator of the year awards. It was another memorable night of celebrations that once again proved there is no shortage of operational excellence in this industry. We look forward to doing it all over again in 2014.
