The money was held after the PPO received information from a number of financial institutions that Betclic had been in receipt of payments from customers based within the Belgian borders, but no charges have been filed to date. Betclic Everest Group expressed its surprise at the allegations and said it had no official information from the Belgian Authorities about the sanctions. “Betclic Everest Group takes this opportunity to state that today, to its knowledge, all funds and transactions related to Belgian customers are processed normally,” a spokesperson said. GREECE S PA I N GTECH WINS OPAP ONLINE SPORTS BETTING CONTRACT s Greek gambling monopoly NETHERLANDS REVISED DRAFT OF NETHERLANDS EGAMING BILL SUBMITTED s Operators with an eye on the Dutch egaming market got their first look at the country’s latest egaming bill in March after a revised draft was submitted to the European Commission. While the vast majority of the proposals remain the same, the update states that operators will no longer have to base their servers in the Netherlands and highlights a number of potential charitable obligations. It also confirmed there will be no pre-launch period for incumbent operators, a move local lotteries had pushed for, having claimed remote firms would have an unfair advantage in the fight for market share. C O M EUROPE UPDATE N E W S EGAMING UPDATES BY COUNTRY OPAP has selected GTECH as its partner to launch an egaming business, starting with an online sports betting site. The announcement follows a closed tender process featuring five companies, believed to have included GTECH, Playtech, Openbet and 888. Despite recent rumours that Playtech were set to be awarded the contract, OPAP confirmed GTECH’s selection in a statement and added that the partnership will “initially be focused on online sports betting”. OPAP told eGR that launching in time for this year’s FIFA World Cup was “wishful thinking”, but said it would be up and running for next season’s domestic football competition at the latest. 9
