Performing Arts Showcase
Each year the King Center for the Performing Arts proudly hosts Brevard Achievement Center ’ s Performing Arts Showcase . This special event features middle and high school exceptional education students , as well as adults with disabilities from the BAC Adult Day Training program , sharing their talents and enjoying being center stage .
For Brevard Public Schools students , this becomes a special academic project . Students and their teachers host a visiting teaching artist in their classroom . Over an eight-week period , they create and practice a performance . Then they get the opportunity to share that performance live on the King Center ’ s main stage in the L3Harris auditorium . For students and teachers alike , it is a treat .
“ What an amazing experience this was ,” said Scott Morgan from Stone Middle School . “ In more than 20 years of teaching , this is probably my favorite activity . Watching the performances on stage , seeing the absolute joy on the faces of our students was very moving . The kids had a blast and I have memories that I will cherish forever .”
The event is a labor of love for the many visiting artists who work with each of the performing groups . But few are more excited than the parents who love the chance to see their special performer appear onstage .
“ This showcase gives the community an opportunity to connect with the special needs community and develop more awareness and sensitivity ,” said Sharonda Burr , parent of a performer . “ The power of music provides a path for communicating one ’ s emotions . If we are impacted by that power as individuals without special needs , imagine the impact this has on individuals who think , act and express themselves differently .”
“ We are truly grateful for the support of the King Center for the Performing Arts and their team of experts ,” said Amar Patel , BAC President and CEO . “ We hope this annual event brings us one step closer to an inclusive community where people with all abilities are able to express themselves through the arts .”
