EFSC MEN ’ S TENNIS TEAM
Performs Well at National Tournament
THE EASTERN FLORIDA State College men ’ s tennis team wrapped up another successful season on the court , placing seventh in the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament .
The Titans , who have been to the national tournament four times in the six-year history of the program , had five players reach the quarterfinals this year in Tyler , Texas and for the second straight season Eastern Florida State College came home with some hardware .
The No . 3 doubles team of Enric Porcar and Jaewoo Choi claimed the Consolation Final title , picking up two victories on the final day to win the title .
The team defeated Mesa Community College ’ s Andrew Hoffman and Duncan Mulenga 8-3 in the consolation semifinals , jumping out to a 4-0 lead and won the final three points to advance to the final .
Then the Titans played Saulk Valley Community College ’ s Jared Mitchell and Jon Rhodes , posting an 8-2 win as Porcar served out the win .
“ We stumbled early and it was a tough loss , but we were able to get back to playing well and we played really well together today and won the title !” Porcar said after the win .
Freshman Lucas Gonzalez reached the national tournament semifinals at No 1 singles and was named an ITA Junior College All-America team member . The Buenos Aires , Argentina native lost to the eventual national champion in the semifinals .
Teammates Lluc Pasqual Camps and Corentin Venot both also reached the semifinals in their singles flights , helping the Titans finish in the top 10 in the nation for the fourth straight season .
The men ’ s tennis team was ranked in the top 10 for most of the regular season and proved it on the court .
“ I am proud of the way the guys fought all week in some hot weather and am happy with the results ,” Eastern Florida State College men ’ s tennis coach Bobby Cashman said after the event . “ We showed the hard work paid off and are looking forward to building on this result for next season .”
EFSC to Host the NJCAA DIVISION I Men ’ s Soccer National Tournament ! Tournament play begins Sunday , November 13 .
