Appeal of Housing Fees
I . Purpose : To establish a standardized practice for reviewing and responding to the appeal of any Housing fee / charge including , but not limited to , contract cancellation fee , key replacement fee , cleaning fee , damage fee , etc .
EFSC tracks the condition of housing facility rooms and suites through routine inspections . Housing Staff will conduct an initial review of the room and suite before arrival and document pre-existing damage . The same form is referenced at move-out .
Any new damage beyond normal wear and tear , as determined by Housing Staff , will be charged to the student ’ s account and will be deducted from the Housing Deposit . If the damage assessed is greater than the Housing Deposit , the additional fee ( s ) will be charged to the student ’ s account .
Fees may also be charged if a space is left dirty or belongings are abandoned .
II . Policy : A . Housing fees / charges ( Housing Fees ) include direct cost recovery issues ( damage repairs ) and other fees , fines , and penalties . 1 . An appeal of Housing Fees must be submitted online via the Housing website . Additional supporting documentation ( if any ) must be submitted to the Housing Office or emailed to housing @ easternflorida . edu .
2 . All appeals of Housing Fees will be reviewed and acted upon by the Housing Appeals Review Team ( HART ).
3 . If the student is not satisfied with the results of the HART appeal , the student may file a written appeal to the Vice President of External Services within 14 calendar days of the HART decision . The Vice President may ask for additional information and will review and respond in writing .
4 . The decision of the Vice President is the final decision of the College .
5 . A successful appeal will result ( if applicable ) in funds being applied to the student ’ s account .
