ATHLETE SPOTLIGHT Elise Boccabella
What is her secret ? Time management .
For the past two years , Elise
Boccabella has excelled both on the golf course and in the classroom at Eastern Florida State College .
The sophomore from Melbourne is one of the top players on the women ’ s golf team and has maintained a 4.0 GPA over the past four semesters . She will graduate in the spring with an AA degree .
“ That was definitely the biggest thing . Between the travel for golf and keeping up with classes , you really need to manage your time . I actually have a planner and make sure I use the planner ,” Boccabella said . “ I set aside time for my studies and I break it down into times of the day . At 2 p . m . on Wednesdays , I am working on microbiology . I do that about an hour and a half and then I move on to my human nutrition class , so I really try to budget time for each class and make sure I have enough study time with each course .”
While she is maintaining the 4.0 average in the classroom , she has also done well on the golf course where she has finished in the top five in two of the three spring golf tournaments and the team is playing well as it heads towards the postseason .
“ I feel like I am playing really well right now ,” Boccabella said . “ I

have put in a lot of work and it is nice to see the work is paying off . I have been working on the mental side of my game and just really getting into a routine on the golf course .”
The Melbourne Central Catholic graduate has been applying to other community colleges that have dental hygiene programs for next year , which has added to her stress level .
“ Most of the schools only accept 15 students out of 100 and they really base it on grade point average , so I am really lucky that I have been so detailed with my studies ,” Boccabella said . “ If I can keep that up , I should have a good shot at getting into one .”
“ Elise Boccabella may be one of the most driven young ladies I have encountered when it comes to where she wants to go in life ,” Eastern Florida State College women ’ s golf coach Jamie Howell said .
“ You never want to disappoint yourself along with others . I know what I am capable of both on the golf course and in the classroom , so if I don ’ t perform as well as I had hoped or as well as I thought I should have , it definitely does upset me but it just makes me push myself harder to do more or to do better ,” Boccabella said .
With her sights set on finishing strong both in the classroom and on the golf course , Boccabella is confident she can reach her goals .
