2023 DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI AWARD Dr . Diana Wehrell-Grabowski
“ Dr . Diana ,” as she is known , credits Eastern Florida State College for setting her on the career path she chose and her successful career .
A self-professed lifelong learner , she has shaped the fields of science education and STEM around the world . Working within the field of education for four decades , she has been a full-time science educator , assistant director for the Center of Excellence at Florida Institute of Technology , adjunct professor , and the longtime owner of a science education consulting company ( Mobile Science Education Consulting Services ). In this role , she travels throughout the nation and world conducting science and STEM professional staff development , interactive keynotes , and Family Science events for educators , administrators , and families .
Dr . Wehrell-Grabowski has presented at hundreds of regional and national educational conferences throughout the nation and the world as a featured speaker , guest speaker , and keynote speaker . She remains active in the classroom by conducting hands-on science and STEM lessons in public and private schools , as well as informal learning environments including community science and STEM events .
A 1979 graduate of Eastern Florida State College ( then BCC ), Dr . Wehrell- Grabowski holds a Doctorate Degree in Science Education from the Florida Institute of Technology , a Master ’ s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Guam specializing in Secondary Science , and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology with a minor in Education from the University of Guam .
During the past 35 years , Dr . Wehrell-Grabowski has inspired children and adults through her engaging and impactful hands-on-minds-on presentations and professional staff development workshops and institutes . She has been an advocate for promoting scientific literacy and awareness of STEM in underserved populations and communities . A great percentage of Dr . Diana ’ s consulting work has been conducted for Title I Schools servicing communities that are underrepresented in STEM fields .
