EDUCATION CHANCELLORS VISIT EFSC

Two senior Florida Department of Education chancellors visited EFSC in 2022 , meeting with senior college leaders , students and touring facilities .
• Kathy Hebda , Chancellor for the Florida College System , went to the Melbourne Campus where she toured new buildings such as the Health Sciences Institute , Student Union and Student Housing .
• Hebda called her visit “ a great day of learning ” about EFSC programs “ that contribute to Florida ’ s thriving workforce .”
• Dr . Kevin O ’ Farrell , DOE Chancellor for Career , Technical and Adult Education , visited the Cocoa Campus and toured labs for Aerospace Technology , Mechatronic , Computerized Machining , Welding and HVAC .
• Both Chancellors received a briefing on the college ’ s new 10-year master plan for the Cocoa Campus that will invest $ 87 million there for new facilities .
• Dr . Jim Richey said the visits showed Hebda and O ’ Farrell that EFSC is “ setting itself apart in job-ready training to residents of the Space Coast with state-of-the-art facilities and hands-on instruction from faculty with industry experience .”
EFSC is doing an outstanding job preparing students for careers in a range of in-demand fields and partnering with local business and industry leaders , often tailoring programs to meet specific needs to ensure student success .

COLLEGE PRESIDENTS MEET IN TALLAHASSEE

Dr . Jim Richey joined presidents from the State University System and Florida College System in Tallahassee to discuss ways to increase cooperation and improve student success .
• A main topic was the 2-Plus-2 Program that gives state college students automatic entry into a public state university after they have received their Associate ’ s Degree .
• EFSC created the program in 2005 with UCF , and it became a model that has since been adopted by Florida universities and state colleges statewide .
• In the past five years , more than 7,400 EFSC students have gone to UCF through the program .
• EFSC advisors work closely with students to help guide them into the program in conjunction with UCF advisors .
• The program is highly popular and is also marketed to current and prospective students through EFSC ’ s advertising campaigns as an excellent way to continue their education .
• The Tallahassee meeting also featured a discussion on changes in the accreditation process resulting from recent changes made by the Florida Legislative .
