May 2018 College Accomplishments • In the 2017-18 Academic Year, students contributed 172,000 hours of volunteer work. • The program has strong diversity with 35 percent representation from African-American, Hispanic, Asian and Native American students. • More than 135 courses and 350 course sections now integrate service learning with academic study. • The college has more than 500 partner agencies and organizations that give students volunteer opportunities. •  Some major projects with student volunteers included the following: Habitat for Humanity home building; Operation American Standing to support deployed troops; and Junior Achievement work-readiness skills and financial literacy in K-12 classrooms. • Eastern Florida received the 2017 Florida Campus Compact Engaged Campus of the Year Award for state colleges for its distinguished service. • Titusville Campus student Matt Hudson received the 2018 Florida Campus Compact Newman Civic Fellows Award for outstanding academic performance and volunteer work. • The EFSC program has been repeatedly named to the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll at the White House. Stellar Athletic Season EFSC athletic teams continued their impressive performance on the state and national levels with nearly all teams reaching state and national championship tournaments. (Student Enrollment, Diversity Initiatives, Community Awareness) Highlights: • Overall, 10 of the 11 teams made it to the postseason with the women’s soccer, men’s basketball, men’s golf and men’s and women’s tennis teams all finishing in the top eight in their respective national tournaments. • Women’s soccer team made it to the national tournament semifinals for the fifth time. It was the seventh straight season the women’s team has been in the national tournament. • Women’s Soccer midfielder Katie Lockwood was named National Player of the Year. • The men’s basketball team finished third in the nation with a 30-5 record. For the second straight season, they finished in the top three in the NJCAA national tournament. • The Titans have now made the national basketball tournament four straight seasons and eight times overall. • The men’s and women’s tennis teams made their first appearances in the national tournament and both came away with top-six finishes in the nation. •  Women’s tennis had two players reach the semifinals, and men’s tennis had its doubles team reach the semifinals. • The men’s golf team reached the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament for the 16th straight season. • It is the fourth straight season that Titans golf placed in the top 10 in the national tournament and fifth time in past six years. 9
