Veterans Programs Grow Career Center Milestone
The college’s Military and Veterans Service Center
continued to expand its work with more services offered
to veterans attending EFSC. (Student Enrollment,
Diversity Initiatives, Community Awareness) The Career Planning and Development Center has served
more than 61,000 students since it opened in 2012,
providing them critical skills to enter the workforce and
perform at a high level on the job. (Student Enrollment,
Diversity Initiatives, Financial Management, Trustee
Relations, Community Awareness)
Veterans Highlights:
• Some 1,100 veterans and their dependents were
enrolled at EFSC and receive VA benefits.
• Fundraising efforts led to creation of a $10,000
Veterans Scholarship Fund, with the first
scholarships set to be awarded in 2018.
• Opened a Military and Veterans Service Center on
the Palm Bay Campus, the third campus to have
an office along with Cocoa and Melbourne.
• Increased the number of VA-funded, work-study
students from 12 to 19, with the students playing
an important role in all aspects of running the
Military and Veterans campus centers.
• Held a variety of events on all four campuses to
raise awareness of veterans who are students and
the U.S. Armed Forces.
Career Center Highlights:
• Nearly 7,000 students received a range of services
in 2017 to prepare them for the workplace.
• More than 200 students placed in internships
during 2014-17, giving them valuable on-the-job
experience before graduation.
• Over 900 students placed directly in jobs since the
Career Center opened in 2012.
• Nearly 100 companies attended the Spring and
Fall Job Fairs, the most ever.
• Some 4,500 students used Career Coach, a free
24/7 online program that helps them select a
career and prepare for the workforce.
• Harris Corporation, Lockheed Martin, Embraer,
Health First, Brevard County Sheriff’s Office,
Brevard Health Alliance and Space Coast Credit
Union are just a few of the companies the Career
Center worked with in 2017.
