Deeper Recruitment Outreach
New and continuing initiatives through the Student Recruitment Office included deeper outreach to prospective students on many levels , from junior high to adults in the workforce . ( Student Enrollment , Diversity Initiatives , Financial Management , Community Awareness )
Recruitment Highlights :
• Go Higher , Get Accepted , the College ’ s outreach to all Brevard County high schools , resulted in 525 applications received .
• Dual Enrollment information sessions during Parent Preview Nights included new sessions for 8th graders that drew 329 attendees .
• Summer Kick Start workshops to make graduating seniors more successful during their freshman year drew 75 First Time in College attendees with 36 scholarships awarded .
• College for a Day , which gives students the opportunity to get a close look at their local EFSC campus , drew 300 high school seniors .
• Step Up , an initiative to assist homeless , in transition or low-income students to be successful at EFSC continued with students helped with everything from study skills to donated textbooks , food vouchers and housing placement assistance .
• Dare to Finish , a new campaign to get students to return to the classroom , resulted in 47 attendees and 34 applications .
• Bachelor ’ s Degree Information Sessions were held throughout the year to focus attention on the college ’ s 17 four-year tracks in Business , Health Care and Computer Technology .
• Open Houses were held on all four campuses along with new program specific Open Houses for the Health Sciences Institute , Fire Training Center , Information Technology Programs , Aviation Center , and Career & Technical Programs .
• Requests for application information increased , with 4,000 received through the college ’ s website and advertising campaigns , or 1,000 more than 2016 .
• New Lockheed Martin Relocation Agreement allows for California Lockheed employees moving to Brevard to obtain in-state tuition at EFSC .
• Held sessions on EFSC educational opportunities at area businesses and industries , including DRS Technologies , Embraer , Lockheed Martin , City of Cocoa , Florida Today and Brevard Public Schools .
First Aviation Graduates
The first graduating class from EFSC ’ s new Aviation Maintenance Technician program received their certificates , opening the door to a fast-growing career field . ( Student Enrollment , Diversity Initiatives , Community Awareness )
Aviation Highlights :
• The first class consisted of 17 graduates who received their certificates during a ceremony at the King Center .
• The program , based at the college ’ s Aviation Center at Melbourne International Airport , serves as a pipeline to provide workers to the aviation and aerospace companies at the airport and Kennedy Space Center .
• “ This is an incredible time to be coming into the job market because companies are searching for qualified employees like them ,” said Lanny Schott , Director of Aviation Programs .
• “ This area has a lot of opportunities in aviation . It ’ s a great program ,” said graduate Gabriel Castillo .
