funny, I can be insane, I can be quiet and
even vain. You accept me for who I am and
in every way that I am. I love you because
you make me feel safe. When I can’t see
the stairs in the dark and you ask me for
my hand so you can hold it and guide me
down the stairs in the darkness, that’s when
I see the light. When I’m sad and alone
trying to figure out my life, you offer me
your shoulder to cry on, or just so I can rest
my head. When it’s cold; so bitterly cold,
that I’m shivering in my bones, you offer
me your jacket—my jacket—and I’m comfortably warm once again. When I’m standing all by myself and in a crowded place,
waiting for a familiar face, I can sense your
presence around me. Yes, I can smell your
perfume in the air. And I know that you’re
out there somewhere standing and looking
at me. Yes, I know that you’re standing all
by yourself, too. I know that you care.
I love how you smile your crooked smile
and I love how you look at me. I love how

figure me out. I love how you’re all enigmatic and as plain as plain can be. I love
how you get mad at me and then, suddenly
you adore me. I love how you drum your
fingers to the music that you play out loud.
I love how you play my favourite song,
especially for me, when I’m down. I love
how you ask me the most random questions about life. And then, I love how you
shut me up in the middle of my hyperventilation. I love how you look at me lovingly every morning as I get ready to leave
for work. I also love how you glare at me
angrily for acting stubborn when all you
want is to be left alone.
Simply put, I love you. And that’s just
