reverberated off the mountainside as the bright red Porsche
coupe sped down the road doing 220 kilometres per hour. Veer glanced down at the
speedometer; but it was a cursory glance at
best. The road had been fairly hewn out of
the craggy mountainside hundreds of years
ago, with a steep drop to the valley defining
its precariousness. Standing inscrutable in
mute testimony to all who had been down
it over the years. He knew he was driving
way above the speed limit and there was
a part of him that kept telling him – slow
down it’s a winding mountain road, there
are some crazy hairpin bends ahead. What

if there is a bus coming down from the other
side? What about the cops? The speed limit is
120kph. Veer brushed aside all these considerations, he was feeling so bloody good, he
was king and he could do anything. He had a
wide grin on his face and he felt like whooping out loud and pumping his hand in the
air with sheer exhilaration. A momentary
