because most singers usually start with
a secular album before making a gospel
album. However, Riana does not feel
that she betrayed her values or her
faith by leaving the gospel market. Like
her gospel songs her secular album also
presents deep, soulful messages aimed
at especially couples, but also single
persons.
Her album, Die Moeite Werd, surpassed
the double platinum mark with sales of
more than 96 000 units, and with six
no. 1 radio hits she is regarded as one
of the best female artists in the country.
In 2012 she walked off with the Tempo
Award for the most popular pop album
and at the Ghoema Awards in 2013
she shared the sought-after title of
Songwriter of the Year with Johan
Vorster.
She writes songs for a number of
local singers, including Juanita du
Plessis, Jay, Lianie May and Bobby van
Jaarsveld. Her popular hits Dans and
Timbuktu appear on the sound track of
the romantic comedy Semi-Soet and
Maak oop jou oë made a moment in
Klein Karoo much more unforgettable.
Riana Nel’s bubbling personality and
endless talent make for a winning
combination that gets deep under one’s
skin with her lyrics and unforgettable
shows. She makes you laugh, weep and
walk away with a feeling of emotional
revival. Watch out for Riana, she is still
going to leave deep tracks in many
hearts with her soft heart, nigh tingale
voice and warm smile.
Be on the lookout for her brand-new
album that will be released in 2014!
