Message from the Chief Education Officer- Mrs. Elizabeth Walker

Against the background of Dengue, COVID-19 and our recent volcanic eruption, we were still able to produce our annual Educational Statistical Digest for 2019-2020. As the Chief Education Officer, I warmly welcome this publication and commend its insights to all those interested in the business of education in the region and beyond.

The Education Sector relies heavenly on accurate data to guide policies and development based on the evidence provided. This publication provides pertinent data on our education system from early childhood to tertiary education which will help us to strategically plan and monitor the sector more effectively.

Certainly, the COVID-19 pandemic has transformed the education landscape and has forced us to rethink the way we do things in education. We were forced to move from face to face to online to continue teaching and learning for our students. The COVID-19 pandemic has opened up our eyes to the harsh reality of its adverse impact on the education system.

We have to ensure that we capture the relevant data that will assist us so as not to further exacerbate the current setbacks confronting us due to the pandemic. This crisis has provided the opportunity for us to be more innovative and engaging with digital technologies. We have lots of work to do to ensure that no child is left behind in these challenging times.

I urge stakeholders to analysis the data provided and to make meaningful inferences that will help to improve the education system at all levels. I wish to express sincerest thanks all those persons who have contributed to the production of this publication. May God continue to bless us.
