CONCLUSION

The main idea of the “Educate: Learning by playing” project is to clarify and communicate (European) values issues through theatrical method. Students should understand that identity has multiple layers, is changing over time and is dependent on the context: this is true for your own personal identity as well as for cultural identities. These insights enable students to overcome potential us-and-them- differences and to experience the European motto “Unity in Diversity” in a positive way. One of the main tasks of the project is to find a way to achieve these goals. Therefore a group of experts is working on a “Theatre Curriculum framework”, which will develop throughout the project. So far several aspects have been identified. For example, besides the issues of communication, the framework considers how to link the subject to the students, the description of patterns and trends, the (im-)posible explanations for similarities and differences in values between people and countries and the role of place and space and, last but not least, how to stimulate critical thinking amongst the students. This concept will be developed by the participating research teams and point the way ahead in how to teach values issues.
