he Athens‐Clarke County Unified Government (ACC) opened its Center for
Hard‐to‐Recycle Materials (CHaRM) at 1005 College Avenue in November
2015.
CHaRM is a one‐stop drop‐off for items that cannot be included with the
trash and recycling that is picked up curbside at your home or business or accepted
at ACC’s recycling drop‐off sites. The materials accepted at CHaRM are considered
“hard‐to‐recycle” because of their chemical composi on, hazardous components, or
size, and include items such as paint, Styrofoam, ma resses, refrigerators, TV
monitors and other electronics. Items delivered to CHaRM will be sorted and/or
taken apart to determine what can be recycled and what will ul mately have to be
disposed of in the landfill.
