Façade Grant Program Encourages Beautification

Three historic buildings in downtown Athens have been the beneficiaries of ADDA’ s façade grant program, which provides a financial incenve to downtown property or business owners to improve the exteriors of historic downtown buildings. With an annual allotment of $ 15,000( up from its inial $ 10,000), the grant program also aims to ulize matching grants totaling as much as 50 % of the project cost to smulate an equal or greater amount in private funds, resulng in further local investment in our amazing downtown.
The Moss‐Heery Building, former home to REM’ s offices, received ADDA’ s first façade grant. With grant and matching funds, Moss‐Heery’ s owners repaired damage from a long‐ago fire, restored the original metal façade, and returned the historic building’ s paint colors to an historically appropriate palee.

Junkman’ s Daughter’ s Brother is Back in Athens

Junkman’ s Daughter’ s Brother— or just“ Junkman’ s”— has returned to downtown Athens, and we’ re delighted! Formerly located on Clayton Street, the Athens instuon is now housed in the former bus staon at 220 West Broad Street, and it looks fantasc.
The building’ s renovaon exposed the structure’ s ceiling beams, and maintained the building’ s historic character while imbuing the space with Junkman’ s unique charm. Also back in force is the store’ s delighul, eclecc selecon of gis, noveles, and carefully curated one‐of‐a‐kind items.
Welcome back, Junkman’ s! You were sorely missed.

New ADDA Offices

We know. We know. These pictures are some‐what less than excing at first glance. We here at Athens Downtown Development Authority, however, we find them riveng. We’ ve deepened our commitment to keeping downtown Athens a vibrant and economically viable business locaon by pung our money where our mouths are. That, for ADDA, means buying property in downtown.
ADDA purchased a space that had housed a Subway, and we moved our offices there. The 1,340 square foot space includes three offices, receponist and meeng space, as well as a kitchen / copy room. Our new offices are located at 250 West Broad Street, Suite 108.
ADDA’ s new store‐front offices will allow us to spend even more me with our businesses. And of course you can buy or redeem downtown gi cerficates here as well.
