THROUGH THE LENS OF LUCIA PETSCHNIG

Written by Chelsea Pitt
“ A portrait is not made in the camera but on either side of it .” Edward Steichen
“ I had never planned to major in photography , but I knew I wanted to be within a creative field ,” Lucia Petschnig goes on . The young photographer ’ s work shows she was made for the industry . With her captures exploring the fashion , product and storytelling aspects and proving her well stretched talent . Influenced by dissecting the editorials of Burberry , Zara , Gucci , Balenciaga and Off-white and making it a habit of going through international publications such as Sicky Magazine and Schön Magazine for new fresh content , Lucia has a particular eye for capturing the aestetic of a setting creating a ambiance around it in her final delivery . Growing up on a farm on the outskirts of Windhoek , Namibia , Lucia describes herself as always being the simple , introverted , art kid at school . She worked by her self creatively until which she went on to pursue a BA Visual Communication degree at the Stellenbosch Academy of Design and Photography in 2014 . Having difficulty deciding on which creative path to follow she decided on photography . “ I ’ ve always liked the thought that when you are observing and capturing moments through the use of photography , you can interpret whatever you see through your own unique viewpoint , mainly focused on the idea around how you can separate yourself from a situation but still equally influence a big part of it ,” Lucia excitedly goes on .
