Include content that is relevant to the community and appropriate for the audience. You should include current events that JCLers deem important.

Ensure diversity of the content to make the issue interesting.

Optimize use of fonts. Consider point size, contrast, alignment, and readability.

Use engaging captions for photos and other media.

Enhance with interactive elements, images, art, and graphics.

Typically, the issue contains the main feature article, recurrent articles, other articles, and announcements, but you can always add more article types!

Use sidebars, pulled quotes, and bylines if applicable.

Consider the focal point in designing the page. Make sure the page is balanced, readable, and effective in conveying the focal point.

Plan your reading direction and spots where the eyes rest, including the amount of negative (white) space.

Consider line lengths and the amount of text your audience needs to read. Use columns and paragraph breaks to make the text less intimidating to read.
