Dhokar Dalna Recipe
Ingredients:
2 cup soaked chana dal 2 medium sized chopped tomatoes 2 medium sized diced potatoes 4-5 chillies 4 teaspoons ginger paste 1 teaspoon cumin seeds 1 bay leaf 1 teaspoon garam masala whole( optional) 1 teaspon garam masala powder 1 pinch of asafoetida( hing) 2 teaspoons red chilli powder 1 teaspoon turmeric powder 2 teaspoons coriander powder 1 teaspoon sugar 1 teaspoon ghee Salt to taste
Method 1. Soak chana dal overnight. The next morning, grind it into a coarse paste. 2. Now, heat 1 table spoon of oil in a kadhai. Now add the chana dal paste, 2 teaspoons ginger paste, 1 teaspoon red chilli powder, 1 teaspoon turmeric powder and salt. 3. Keep stirring the mixture till the oil separates from the mixture. 4. Now, pour the mixture into a plate that has already been coated with oil. 5. After the mixture has cooled and hardened a little, cut it down into cubes or diamond shapes. 6. Deep fry the cubes in oil and keep them aside. 7. Now, it is time to make the gravy. Heat some oil in another kadhai. Add the remaining ingredients. Add the bay leaf, the remaining ginger paste, cumin seeds, coriander powder, turmeric powder, chillies, sugar, red chilli powder, salt, chopped tomatoes, asafoetida and garam masala powder. 8. When the spices and the tomatoes are fried and well cooked, add some water. Now add the fried chana dal cubes. Bring it to a simmer before turning off the gas. Finally, add the ghee, cover the lid, and let it stand for 10 minutes before serving.
