Hot on the heels of the Tesla Model S being voted one of the best cars in the world, another electric car has achieved a notable feat, breaking a 39-year-old land speed record. Driven by former UK science minister Lord Drayson, the Drayson B12 69/EV electric Le-Mans Prototype clocked up 204.185miles per hour smashing the previous record by an electric car of 175 miles per hour. In near perfect conditions at the RAF Elvington Airfield near York, England the 2200lbs car amazed onlookers as it showcased the latest in electric vehicle technology. The pioneering automobile is the product of Drayson Racing an Oxford-based research and development business pioneering the use of sustainable technologies in motorsport. Since its 2007 inception the venture has been working on addressing the challenges presented by climate change and pollution by developing electric drivetrains and wireless charging technologies which they believe have significant commercial potential.
