EDGE Evolve Yearbook 2013 | Page 2

Headmasters Yusuf Salejee Edge Evolve Chairman (Headmaster) It’s that time of the year where everybody feels excited about the holidays fast approaching but that nervous butterfly feeling remains tingling while there are a few days left to finally closing the chapter of 2013 forever. For some it is has been challenging, and a relief that it’s over, while others just need a few more days to put the final touches to 2013. I think 2013 has been a year of implementing disciplines, focus and structures. If you think back to your school year when you had chosen your subjects and the teachers were grouping everybody in their relevant classrooms the objective was the same for all, yet the journey would be different for each individual. By this I mean simply hat for some areas of the business there is already a flow of business activities, for others there needs to be a complete turnaround strategy and then there are the areas in-between which have a bit of both. The journey of 2013 has really been one of cohesion and accountability. It has set the foundation for the years to come, i.e. understanding the different areas of business and creating the focus in those areas to grow the business sustainably. We have had a few captains applying different rules yet achieving beneficial results. If you take the subject of “Consulting” under the wing of Dave Sayer there was the experience of understanding people and giving them the comfort they require to perform. There were also the team leaders and their teams that understood the game and sang from the same Hymn book to make sure delivery took place. If you take the subject of “DataAssist” under Frances Jordaan, which is a bit like Biology with all its different genetic constituents, it really takes a special skill to bring the different life forms together and make them realise the importance of their existence and the reasons why it is important to work together in contributing to the “evolution” of the earth. The innovation that comes out from this product is phenomenal and right up there with the best, if not better. The subject of “DataWave” under Herman Badenhorst has been the story of the new kid on the block taking his experience and strengths in the other subjects to provide a winning formula for the school. This is a good example of a fantastic meal; having a good burger on its own doesn’t go down well but when you have a good burger, chips and a large ice cold drink, that goes down really well and that is the benefit of DataWave, finding different products and services to provide a fantastic solution.
