Juan Santos of Conejo Valley Unified School District was recently named 2016 Administrator of the Year by the California Association of Latino Superintendents and Administrators and Mentoring Minds . The award carries with it a $ 10,000 award , and Santos graciously donated half the amount to the school where he has been principal , Maple School , even though he has subsequently moved to the district office as director of Student Support Services .

Centralia Elementary School District Superintendent Norma Martinez has announced the addition of new administrators : Robert French has been named assistant superintendent of human resources ; Estela Salas is the new principal of Raymond Temple Elementary , and Omaira Lee has joined CESD as the principal of San Marino School . In addition , Jon Raymond will serve as the new coordinator for special education .

Mesa UESD has welcomed Stephen Bluestein as the principal of Mesa Union School in Somis . Bluestein comes to the district from Los Angeles USD , where he was a principal and teacher for the past 26 years . n n n
In Fruitvale SD , Erick Rouanzoin is the new assistant principal at Fruitvale Junior High , and Kim Hoffman is the new assistant principal at Columbia Elementary .

Martinez USD welcomed CJ Cammack as superintendent . This new role follows his service in 2015-16 as MUSD ’ s deputy superintendent . Helen Rossi , former director of educational services is the new assistant superintendent of human resources .
Stacy Joslin is the new principal of Morello Park Elementary , and Kerry Cusack and Karen Carlson join Alhambra High School as assistant principals .

In Davis Joint USD , John Bowes is the new superintendent . Bowes joins the district from Palos Verdes Peninsula USD , where he served as assistant superintendent of human resources . Jonathon Brunson , director of Personnel Services also announced the following positions : Troy Allen is the new director of curriculum , assessment and learning . Ricardo Perez has been named director of English learner programs . Jennifer McNeil is the new principal at Margaret Montgomery Elementary . Sarah Roseen has taken on a new role as interim principal of North Davis Elementary School . Tyler Millsap is the high school principal of Da Vinci Charter Academy . Michelle Flowers has been appointed principal of Davis School for Independent Study . Kellie Sequeira is beginning her administrative career as a vice principal at Davis Senior High School . Jenna Gonzales is the new director for the Children ’ s Center Preschool Program .

Response to active shooter focus of free summits offered throughout state

Are you ready to respond to an active shooter on your campus ? Keenan , in conjunction with ACSA and Emergency Preparedness Group Inc ., will conduct free trainings , beginning this month , designed to promote safety and security in schools and community colleges .
The goal is for attendees to walk away with a clear plan of action for what to do if ever faced with an emergency situation , such as an active shooter , and to remove the uncertainty in a situation with preparation that can save lives . Key takeaways include : best practices on improving district / college emergency plans ; how to perform table tops / emergency site drills ; and information on active shooter drills and terrorism .
The Active Shooter Summits will focus on prevention , preparation , mitigation , and recovery from all types of school campusrelated emergencies , including terrorism . Discussion will consider the lessons learned from active shooter situations across the world over the past few years . as budget manager ; and Vince Belloni as director of Maintenance , Operations and Transportation . In addition , Leticia Salinas is the new assistant superintendent of human resources . The district also announced new site leader appointments : Akilah Byrd becomes principal at Graham Elementary ; Grace Huerta is principal at Newark Memorial High School ; and Eli Wasser and Barbara Meier have been appointed assistant principals at Newark Memorial . Dana Sudduth was named assistant principal and Jessica Bartok is the new dean at Newark Jr . High School .

Four big conferences keeping EdServices busy

ACSA Educational Services is preparing for a busy fall conference season . Staff is working on four large events between September and November :
Women in School Leadership Forum . The very successful Women in School Leadership Forum is coming to Newport Beach , Sept . 28-30 . The event features five excellent keynote speakers , plus numerous sessions on issues of critical importance to women school leaders . Women are underrepresented in all areas of school leadership , and this Forum will help level the playing field . The Women in School Leadership Forum is considered the premier networking and educational experience designed to engage , enlightening and empower women education leaders from across the country .
Personnel Institute . ACSA ’ s Personnel Institute arrives in California ’ s Capital City , Sacramento , Oct . 5-7 . Designed for personnel leaders in California , the workshops , seminars and presentations will empower HR staff – whether veterans or newcomers – to discover new ideas , stay up-to-date on the latest research and legal issues , and learn new concepts and ideas for future implementation in the HR office or the district . This is a don ’ t-miss event for anyone in HR .
ACSA Leadership Summit . The Leadership Summit is ACSA ’ s premier professional development event . The 2016 Summit , held in San Diego Nov . 10-12 , offers a gathering of educators at all levels of administration for professional learning and a celebration of the profession . For 2.5 days , this event provides opportunities for invaluable networking and offers sessions on current critical leadership and educational issues .

There are sessions aimed at co-administrators , adult educators , and for anyone wishing to expand their knowledge in the areas of curriculum , labor relations , ELL instruction , technology , CTE , classified management and much more . NASS Leadership Conference . The first-ever NASS Leadership Conference comes to San Diego Nov . 7-9 . This conference is intended as a
premier professional development event created solely for superintendents . The first-annual conference will serve not only as a celebration of the profession but also to provide networking opportunities and professional development on critical educational issues of high interest for our nation ’ s superintendents .
The NASS Leadership Conference will offer some of the best in keynote speakers , including Sir Ken Robinson , Linda Darling-Hammond , and Superintendents Joe Sanfelippo and Dallas Dance . The entire event will be live-streamed . The event also includes sessions on ESSA , career development and superintendent-board relations .
