Summit has learning for all leaders
The Leadership Summit is ACSA ’ s premier professional development event . This annual gathering of educators at all levels of school administration is a celebration of the profession . For three days , this event provides opportunities for invaluable networking and offers professional development on current critical leadership and educational issues .

Known for her high code of ethics , her extensive community involvement and her tireless willingness to create positive change , Sabine Robertson-Phillips , ACSA ’ s 2017 Personnel / Human Resources Administrator of the Year , has proven to be an outstanding asset to Redlands USD ’ s senior management team .
She began working at Redlands USD as a teacher , moving through the ranks to assistant principal and coordinator of human resources before her promotion to assistant superintendent of

including writer and management consultant Margaret Wheatley ; rapping Teacher of the Year Michael Bonner ; and journalist , filmmaker and immigration rights activist , Jose Antonio Vargas . The sessions are full of vital information for school leaders . And there are also celebrations of ACSA ’ s statewide Administrators of the Year and Every Student Succeeding recipients .
There will also be a pre-conference event on equity , and a post-conference event
geared for co-administrators .
The Summit Planning Committee has been co-chaired by Kevin Silberberg and Devin Vodicka , both of whom have been at the forefront of the use of technology in K-12 schools . Along these lines , Silberberg said he is really looking forward to the session , The Future of Personalized Learning .

DACA deadline Oct . 5 . The deadline is fast approaching for undocumented students to apply for renewal of their DACA permit . All persons in the country on a DACA permit that expires by March 5 , 2018 , must submit for renewal by Oct . 5 . ACSA , as part of the California Equity Leadership Alliance , is offering resources to help students and employees who may need help completing their renewal applications . It should also be noted that the renewal process is not inexpensive , at $ 465 . The resources offered on ACSA ’ s website also point applicants to where they can go to request financial assistance . ACSA PD catalog . A new catalog listing all the many professional development opportunities – conferences , academies , programs , credentialing and coaching , digital learning and much more – that ACSA offers is now available on the ACSA website . CEL Institute . The 2017 Classified Educational Leaders Institute is slated for Feb . 28-March 2 at the Crowne Plaza Redondo Beach . The ACSA conference is one of the only annual professional learning events specifically for CELs . Superintendents are urged to send their staffs . Green summit awards . The 2017 Green California Schools and Community Colleges Summit , Nov . 28-29 , looks at how districts and faculty can connect the dots on green school programs and new science standards . In addition , nominations are due by Oct . 20 for the summit ' s Leadership Awards , recognizing excellence in five categories . Winners are expected to be notified by Oct . 27 , and awards will be presented Nov . 27 at the summit . Nominations are encouraged from schools and districts large and small . CA college eligibility more than doubles for Black , Latino students
The percentage of high school graduates eligible for California State University admission has risen steadily during the past two decades , moving from 29.6 percent in 1996 to an all-time high of 40.8 percent in 2015 , with African American and Latino students making the largest gains , according to a report by Research Triangle International .
During the period of the study , from 1996 to 2015 , the eligibility rate of African American and Latino students for CSU and UC more than doubled .
Overall , eligibility for admission to the University of California system also increased from 11.1 percent to 13.9 percent , with African American eligibility increasing from 2.8 to 6.5 percent , and Latino eligibility increasing from 3.8 to 8.5 percent .
The change in eligibility , in addition to California ’ s growing population , translates into a large increase in the number of students who qualify for postsecondary education in California .
According to the study , about 46,000 high school graduates were eligible for UC
