Access the online tool at www . csac . ca . gov . Between Oct . 1 until the March 2 Cal Grant deadline , high schools , districts and counties have been using Race to Submit to gauge the submission and completion of the FAFSA and CADAA , along with how many Cal Grants have been awarded .
In an effort that is resonating with high schoolers , CSAC has teamed up with Get Schooled , a non-profit focused on improving college access and success , to launch the # RacetoSubmit Challenge .
Led by mega producer-spokesman DJ Khaled , the challenge encourages California students to “ get the knowledge to pay for college ” by engaging with Race to Submit . An interactive website has been helping students understand the process at https :// getschooled . com / race-to-submit-ca .
“ As more California students aim to enroll in and graduate from college , it has become increasingly important for our students to have a place designed for them where they can explore financial aid resources ,” Alcalá said . “ We are excited to partner with Get Schooled , which is nationally recognized for its student-centered resources , on this project .”
This is the sixth challenge since 2014 that Get Schooled has partnered on to boost Cal Grant applications .

2018-19 Leadership Institute registration opening soon

Last year , ACSA proudly opened enrollment of a new credentialing offering : The Preliminary Administrative Services Credential Program . The credential is earned over the course of a year via the Leadership Institute . ACSA ’ s offering of the Leadership Institute is made possible by partnerships with Sacramento County Office of Education and San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools . With the first cohort of 42 students now well into the fourth course , “ Family and Community Engagement ,” it is safe to say the Leadership Institute has been wellreceived by participants . What they say sets this credentialing experience aside from others they have had include program director Michael Roe ’ s unconventionally direct leadership style , and the opportunity to receive outstanding instruction in a close setting from an all-star faculty . The Leadership Institute courses are taught by experienced school leaders such as Superintendent Terrence Davis , assistant superintendents such as Perry Wiseman and Darren Daniel , or retired district leaders such as Suzette Lovely , Kenn Young and LaFaye Platter . ACSA is pleased to announce that all six instructors will be moving forward with the program , with the addition of Martinrex Kedziora , who will be coinstructing with Lovely . In order to be eligible for the Leadership Institute , applicants must have :
• an earned teaching credential or service credential ,
• five years of full-time teaching experience ,
• and a passing score on either the California Basic Educational Skills Test or the California Subject Examination for Teachers .
The program curriculum is based on the California Professional Standards for Education Leaders and is comprised of 154 hours of in-class instruction and 77 hours of online chats , which take place over the course of the year . This time is organized into six courses , each with an end-of-course paper . In-person meetings of the entire cohort are held every other Saturday from 8:30 a . m . – 4:30 p . m . in San Bernardino County . Faculty members also invite “ mini-session experts ,” individuals with exceptional knowledge in a specific area related to the course , to share their expertise with participants . Online chats take place in small groups that are rotated between each course , and are mediated by online principal-coaches . Additionally , each student creates an end-of-year project intended to put concepts and standards from the coursework into action . The project centers around a need of the participant ’ s school or district , which assists with continued development and implementation , and each project proposal is developed collaboratively with the program director and faculty , as well as with the participant ’ s district coach and peers . Participants present their projects at the end-of-program symposium . By completing four additional classes the following year ( two-year program total ), candidates may apply the work from Leadership Institute courses to earn

their master ’ s degree in Applied School Leadership – an option made possible through ACSA ’ s collaboration with National University . Participants have a support system and wealth of resources available to them throughout the program . Key concepts , requirements and program expectations are provided at this meeting , so that participants are inspired and set up to succeed from the beginning . Live support includes the Leadership Institute team , a faculty mentor , district coach , and online principal-coaches , while the participant handbook provides details about coursework , fieldwork , online instruction and policies and procedures . Additionally , Leadership Institute reading materials are provided on Kindle Fires , distributed to each cohort member . Upon successful completion of the coursework for the Preliminary Administrative Services Credential , participants ’ names will be submitted to the program office at CTC for either the Certificate of Eligibility or the Preliminary Administrative Services Credential ( if the participant has received an offer of administrative employment by a district ). “ Every minute this morning was challenging and inspiring , and I am beyond excited about this growth opportunity for me as an educator , a leader and as a person … I cannot believe what a blessing it is to be in the company of these amazing educators that you have brought for us to learn from .” – Leadership Institute participant The 2018-19 Leadership Institute application period is open March through mid-May .
