The Riverside Revitalisation project ( stage 1 ) is the next public realm upgrade currently in detailed design phase . Upgrades will focus on providing an activated public space that inspires the rediscovery of the Pioneer River edge as a quirky and distinctly Mackay destination . The aim is to deliver a space that encourages greater health , wellbeing , and tourism opportunities through the development of a green space , enhancement of visual amenity and improved connection .
The scope of work will deliver :
• Outdoor dining and temporary markets
• Event zones
• Community pavilion
• Informal recreation zone with shelters and seating nodes
• Improved shared zone to prioritise active transport
Initial site preparation has already commenced with the demolition of a 120-year-old dilapidated building , opening up views of the Pioneer River to the community for the first time . Construction of the new public realm is due to begin by the end of 2021 .

SHAHLI WRIGHT Shahli Wright has worked in local government for 5 and a half years . She began her career in Economic Development , specifically working as part of the Mackay City Centre team where she provided support with stakeholder engagement initiatives and the organisation of promotions , events and activations .
