THE NEED Creative Industries momentum was created following a regional workshop and forums held in partnership between the Legatus Group , Regional Development Australia Yorke Mid North and the Department of Industry and Skills in 2019 . Through this series of conversations with regional stakeholders , the need for a regional audit of the sector was identified .
An approach was made to Flinders University to consider the use of a PhD Intern to undertake a research project . Flinders University has a strong interest in creative industries policy and evaluation programs and had run the Federal Government Entrepreneurial Facilitation Service in the Legatus Group region .
Utilising the APR . Intern National Research Internships Program , the Legatus Group contracted Verity Laughton from Flinders University to undertake a report on the Creative Industries in the Legatus Group Region . This was facilitated via her Academic Mentor Dr Tully Barnett , a nationally recognised researcher and
partner in the Laboratory Adelaide project , an ARC funded investigation into the noneconomic value and impacts of the cultural sector within communities .
Laughton ’ s report was released in April 2020 . The recommendations included , amongst others , the need for ( 1 ) Regional Creative Industries Coordinator ( 2 ) Increased awareness of the Creative Industries in Council and Regional Development Plans and ( 3 ) Developing a Regional SA Creative Industries Forum or Conference . These recommendations were aimed at increasing awareness of what the Creative Industries are and to bring the Regional South Australian Creative Industry practitioners and stakeholders together .
In November 2020 , the South Australian Government launched a new 10-year strategy to accelerate the development of South Australia ’ s creative industries which sets an ambitious target of five per cent growth per annum to 2030 . Meanwhile , the SA Government is currently progressing with an Arts and Cultural Tourism Strategy .
