The list of the effecting factors does not end there. The next in the list
is the antibody called IgE. Same as any other antibody, this seeks
and destroys the foreign invaders such as viruses, bacteria etc. It is
found that about 80% to 90% of the children with atopic dermatitis
have this antibody at unusually high levels. Once this antibody level is
high, the body tends to react even to the friendly substances that
come in to body or in touch with the skin. Therefore, the level of IgE
in the blood stream is used for distinguishing atopic dermatitis from
other skin related diseases.
Atopic Eczema Symptoms
There are three basic categories of lesions caused by atopic
dermatitis:
• Acute lesions: These are extremely itchy and red in color
(erythematous skin). They look similar to pimples and discharge
sore fluids. Acute lesions are usually accompanied by peeling
of skin and destruction of skin surface (erosion).
