North-East of Salamanca (Salamanca) Birds of interest North-East of Salamanca The birds from the North-East of Salamanca are the most diverse group from among the vertebrates, with 250 recorded species. The steppe birdlife and waterfowl are well represented in the North-East. The Riolobos dam has attracted species that were previously unknown in this district like the white-headed duck and the common shelduck. The zone has several protected areas integrated in the Red Natura 2000 network, dependant on the European Union. Some of the places have been recognised as Listed Wetlands.
