Kakadu National Park

Kakadu National Park is located in the Northern territory and is approximately 240km east of Darwin.
Wetlands such as Yellow Water and Mamukala are present in the park all year round.
Yellow Water is a landlocked billabong, home to an extensive range of birds including jacanas, egrets, magpie geese and sea eagles as well as other animals such as crocodiles and buffalo.
Functioning of Wetlands
Fauna:
Crocodiles-­‐ Ten thousand crocodiles live in the Kakadu region( that is a tenth of all crocodiles in the Northern territory). The National park is home to both saltwater and freshwater crocodiles.
Flatback turtles Flat back turtles are located at the mouth of the South Alligator River, where Kakadu meets the sea.
These turtles are listed as nationally vulnerable and is the only marine turtle worldwide to be assessed as‘ data deficient’-­‐ meaning that researchers do not know enough about the species to tell whether populations are declining, stable or increasing.
