A. Discuss the basic difference between a career and a job.
-A career is something that you work towards your whole life or for the majority of it. It’s something that
you worked for and set all your goals towards. A job is just something you do to earn money. It’s not
something that you would want to be doing your whole life. A job is just something you do that’s short
term, where a career is long term. A career choice is an important decision to make in your life. You want
your career to be something you love doing. You wouldn’t want to spent your whole lives doing
something you’re not happy doing.
B. Explain the motivational factors that may influence a person’s career choice.
-There are two main types of motivation that can influence a person career choice, intrinsic and extrinsic
motivation. Someone who has intrinsic motivation is more likely to be self-influenced and focused on
their individual self. They may be referred to as introverts and most likely to choice a career that doesn’t
involve much social interaction. People who have extrinsic motivation are motivated by things other than
their self and by other people. People who have extrinsic motivation can be considered extroverts and
more likely to choice a career that involves other people who can push them to do their best. Careers that
are best for intrinsic motivated people would be careers like, librarian, scientist, or an engineer because
they rely on themselves and not on interaction with other people. Careers that best for extrinsic
motivated people would be careers such as nursing, physical therapy, or teaching because they rely on
other to help them succeed and to do their best. Whichever way a person is motivated it is best to choose
a career path that suits your personal goals and your wants for your future .
C. Answer the following questions:
1. What do you believe to be your passion?
Ever since I was little I’ve always been a dancer and that is a passion that I have. I have been so
dedicated to dance that I have been teaching it and helping out with younger girls. Through my
experiences with the younger girls I’ve gained a new passion. That passion is to help people and help
them get better at whatever it may it be.
2. What would you do if you knew that you would most likely (at the very best) be
compensated moderately?
Something that I would do would be nursing. Specifically it would be a pediatric nurse. I have always
liked to help people out. With nursing you help people get better and make sure they are healthy. The
amount of money that I get wouldn’t matter to me. The joy that you would get out of helping
someone is enough motivation for me to be a nurse. To be a pediatric nurse and knowing that you
help a young child get better would bring me joy cause I love children and how much I get
compensated wouldn’t matter.
3. What type of work do you absolutely refuse to do under any circumstance?
The type of work that I would not want to do under any circumstance would be a high pressure job. I
wouldn’t want to be someone that gets put under a lot of pressure and all responsibility falls on just
