Career planning
a. Clearly and descriptively describe how you would prefer to spend your professional career.
I would like to spend my professional career being a pediatric nurse to provide health care to children. I
would like to work at a children’s hospital. This is because the main focus at a children’s hospital is the
healthcare of children. The pediatric section would be the whole place not just a wing of a hospital. This
would be good because you would get a chance to expand your experience as a nurse treating different
types of patients. Being a pediatric nurse wouldn’t just be my job it would wind up being something I love
to do. I love to work with children and helping others, and I’m a very caring and kindhearted person. I
wouldn’t want my work to take up all of my time because I still would like to in the future have a family
and etc. but I do want to spend most of my time doing something I love to do.
b. Create a flow chart detailing each step in the path toward achieving your desired objective.
Graduate from High School -> get accepted into an undergraduate nursing program -> work hard to
acquire a Bachelor’s degree in nursing -> Apply for an internship at a local hospital to gain experience in
the specific field of nursing I would like to do (pediatric nurse) ->study abroad and get the chance to
experience the health care other countries get and how not all countries get the same health care
opportunities that we have -> graduate college with a bachelor’s degree in nursing -> take and pass the
NCLEX –RN examine to be able to practice as a registered nurse -> apply to various hospitals to gain a
position as a the specified nurse I would like to be-> get additional training in the specified nurse
type(pediatric nurse) ->become a pediatric nurse to provide health care to children
c. Questions you need to ask yourself about your life plan
1. What principles am I committed to as a person?
Principles that I am committed to would be family, good health, and being secure and having a steady
job. I am committed to family because family means everything to me. They are the ones that are
always there for me and they will always be there for me no matter what. Having a good health is
important because when you get older you don’t want to end up with any illnesses. It is also
important to me because for someone who wants to be a pediatric nurse you can’t have a bad health.
You’re going to be exposed to different illnesses and you want to have a strong healthy immune
system. Being secure is important because you want to be secure with yourself and know what
you’re doing and you want to be confident in yourself. If you’re not confident in yourself you
wouldn’t want to be worrying about if you’re doing your job correctly or not. Also having that security
will help you get a steady job.
2. What kinds of experiences do I want in my life?
Things that I would like to experience in my life would be travel and adventure, love and compassion.
When I get older I would love to travel around the world to different places and experiences different
cultures. In college I would love to get the opportunity to study abroad and I plan on doing so. I would
be a great experience to know what the health care is like in places like Ireland, Jamaica, and
Guatemala. It would be a great opportunity to see what it’s like in other places. That would bring
adventure into my life to travel to many countries. Most likely everyone wants to experience love in
