Eco-Rom Ambalaje and the ECEB
handed in awards to the most
creative students who participated in the
2nd ECOlympics, aer 6 months of lessons about separate collection and the recycling process. ﬔis year, the program
was expanded to 33 communities, where
more than 17,800 3rd and 4th grade students followed the textbook “We Learn
How to Recycle Packaging!”. Aer their
teachers explained the content of the textbook, students used what they learned to
write essays full of imagination, where
packaging waste begins a new life due to
separate collection and recycling. More
than 700 3rd and 4th grade classes participating in the project were represented
in the final stages of the competition by
the student with the best essay in their
class, according to the teacher. Awards
were presented to the winners during a
ceremony hosted by MP Carmen
Moldovan, President of the Environment
and Ecological Balance Committee with
the Chamber of Deputies and attended by
parents and teachers. One hundred
prizes were offered, consisting of multimedia devices for the winners of the 1st,
2nd and 3rd places, and schoolbags for
the honorary mentions.
“Studying, access to information and
practice are the three most important pillars in getting healthy habits. Our re-
i understood that each of us is responsible for the waste we
produce. we can’t throw everything away everywhere, we
can’t be indifferent to what we leave behind. there is this simple rule we should follow, if we want and truly care - nothing
is lost, everything is reused, so, recycle!
Excerpt from the winning essay
peated actions may have a positive or
negative long term impact on the environment. ﬔrough these educational projects, we are trying to make students
understand that they need to become
more responsible towards the resources
they use - and separate collection of
packaging waste followed by recycling is
a great step forward towards a cleaner
environment. We appreciate the efforts
made by responsible manufacturers, to
support ecological education in as many
Romanian schools as possible. We wish
to see the information these students get
by participating in the ECOlympics being
turned into just as many environmental
protection activities”, said MP Carmen
Moldovan, President of the ECEB.
ECOlympics for Students is a complex endeavor aiming at familiarizing Romanian
students with separate collection of pack-
aging waste. ﬔis educational program is
run in partnership with the Ministry of National Education and integrates two components: a teaching line and a practical line,
meant to create a more dynamic teaching
process and stimulate competitiveness at
the school, local and national level.
“Caring for the environment is not hard this is our lesson for the 2nd year in a
row, via the ECOlympics for Students.
ﬔerefore, in the textbook we provide for
Romanian schools with our partners’
help we show kids how easy and fun recycling packaging waste can be. Congratulations to the winners and the many
teachers who joined us, over 700 teachers and county inspectors, and supported the 2nd ECOlympics for Students”,
said Sorin Cristian Popescu, General
Manager of Eco-Rom Ambalaje.
