Creamy Foundations

Creamy Foundations are very soothing for dry or mature skin types since they are enriched with emollients, vitamins, antioxidants, and tons of anti-aging benefits. They offer a soothing, smooth finish with light to medium coverage.

Foundation Sticks

Foundation sticks can be one of the easiest to use. This formula is often sweat- and heat-resistant, and it's ideal for oily skin. Since this skin type is already naturally moisturized, the "melting technique" used for stick foundations will allow them to apply onto the skin smoothly and without any problems. If you have very dry or dry skin, this is one formula you want to stay away from since this foundation type will only accentuate your dry areas.

Unique Foundation Formulas

Spray, mousse and cushion foundations have a unique formula, and they are great for those who have a normal to combination skin. Some of these foundations even work on oily skin. Since they are very light weight, are often luminous, and have a natural finish, this formula is ideal for makeup beginners or for those who are looking to achieve that “no makeup” or fresh look.

Before you make your decision, let's make sure you are going for the right finish: luminous, dewy, matte, or satin finish. Just remember that if you are not taking care of your skin or priming your skin with the right foundation base, you will not be able to achieve a good finish. I suggest that you go to your favorite beauty counter and ask for a customized foundation sample and test it out for a couple of days before you buy it.

Powders

I am not a big fan of powders, but they can be beneficial if you are trying to prolong the wear of your foundation or if you are looking to mattify your oily areas, add coverage, or even do some touch ups throughout the day.

Powders are often talc base. Talc is a mineral that helps eliminate excess fluid by closing the gap where oil accumulates. If you have combination or oily skin, this is a great add-on to your makeup routine. Another great powder to use if you are looking to set and lock in your foundation for hours is a setting powder. Setting powders come in two basic forms: loose and compact. As a makeup artist, I love working with colorless setting powders, but that is a matter of personal choice.

I used to hate powders until I found the perfect powder for my dry skin. Finishing powders and silky powders are a must for dry skin! Finishing powders are often applied on top of your setting powder or makeup. They help make the skin look smoother and almost give a blurring effect by hiding fine lines and reducing the appearance of large pores. Some of them even add luminosity or a radiance finish. Silky powers capture the glow of flawless skin, and in most cases, can be hydrating and leave you with a smooth silk finish.

Let’s Add Color!

It's time to add color to finish up your look. All you need are a few products: bronzer, blush, mascara, eyeliner, and lipstick.

Bronzers and blushes can ruin your makeup look if you don't know your undertone. They can make your skin look muddy or orange. Finding your skin undertone is easy. All you need is something silver, gold, and rose-colored. Put each color against your skin and see which one best complements your skin tone. If you look good with gold jewelry, you are a warm-toned girl. If you look better in silver jewelry, you have cool undertones. Are you neutral-toned? If so, you probably look great wearing rose gold jewelry.

Now that you have figured out your skin tone, it is time to choose your everyday blush. If you have a cool-toned complexion, you will look great wearing anything in the pink, violet, or lilac family. If you have warm or golden undertones, use a peach, bronze, orange, or even coral blush. Let's not forget our about our neutral and olive undertone girls! Any peachy, pink, brown-pink, brown-peach, brown-mauve, and rose gold blush will compliment your skin tone best.
