Letter from the Editor
Breast Cancer Awareness Month is an annual international campaign organized by charities
every October to increase awareness of the disease and to raise funds or research into its
causes, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure. This year, #PinkOctober has a special
meaning for me as we join my mother-in-law, Tiffany Thompson, in her fight against cancer. A
few short weeks ago she was diagnosed with breast cancer and by the time you read this she
will have had a double mastectomy and have started chemotherapy. No one is ever prepared
to hear that they have cancer. When this terrible disease comes knocking, those who are faced
with the diagnosis need the love and support of family and friends. This month, I encourage
you to find a way to participate in a local fundraiser, write a note of encouragement to
someone battling, or send a message to a survivor to celebrate their victory. If you are a breast
cancer survivor, I encourage you to share your story. I truly believe that everything we experience in life, good and bad, are the stepping-stones to the responsibilities we will have in the future. When we share our stories, we foster relationships and help others gain freedom.
Together we can empower and inspire others to keep fighting against cancer.
