Riya: Austin, Texas

Riya: A younger brother

Riya: Indian

Christina: Who is your biggest role model?

Riya: My mom

Christina: How long have you been modeling?

Riya: 5 years

Christina: How and why did you decide to become a model?

Riya: A few years ago, I was accompanying my mom to a fashion show fundraiser that she was planning for a non profit. The designer asked us if I would walk for him that evening, as one of his models could not make it due to a last minute emergency. To my surprise, I said yes! Since then, I have been modeling to support good causes, and I am thankful to be able to use my gifts and talents for charitable purposes.

Christina: What has been your favorite assignment so far?

Riya: My favorite assignment is the Annual Intercultural Fashion Show. This event is an annual fundraiser for Austin Intercultural Network, and it was the first show I ever modeled in. I love the diversity of designers and models in this show and it will always be special to me because it was my first assignment.

Riya: I have done both runway and print.

Christina: How have your parents helped you pursue your dreams?

Riya: My parents have been very supportive of me modeling while also helping me achieve my academic goals.

Christina: What is your next modeling project/job?

Riya: I will be walking for the upcoming fashion show by Eclectic Shades, called “Artistry and Vogue”, supporting the Central Texas Food Bank.

Christina: What has been most surprising for you about the modeling industry?

Riya: I discovered that models are so talented, very caring and down to earth, however they are not as appreciated and the fashion industry in general is not as well respected. I hope that with my goal to become a doctor, and continue to support charitable causes through modeling, I can help change that mindset in my community regarding the fashion industry and models.
