The ES Magazine Fashion and Artistry Show on November 17th was an incredible night. From the Isaac Sisters performing, to the gorgeous models and incredible designers, you could feel the fierce female presence in the room. My husband and I enjoyed seeing old friends and meeting new ones. Our magazine owner, Imiko Miller, continues to bring together a community of creatives who encourage diversity and promote artistic excellence. I could not help but admire the courage and creativity of the female business owners in the room. As I watched their incredible designs move down the runway, I wondered, who’s buying? As I began my holiday shopping, I realized how easy it has become to “find it all,” on websites like Amazon, but when I want to find a special gift for a relative, friend or my child’s teacher, my first stop is at a boutique right across my neighborhood. How important is it for us to shop local? What difference does it make for that family? Forty years ago, my parents started their own tile company, and I watched them work to grow that business and hire more employees from our town. When we buy local, the job market grows. Small businesses are making a big impact on our cities. This month you will get to know some female entrepreneurs who are following their passions and bringing us all along for the party. On our cover is the vibrant and stunning, Maria Corbalan. If you have not met her, you’re due for a trip to Austin. This holiday season, I challenge you to shop local and shop small. Help those around you help others. Happy Holidays from my family and the ES team.
