When most Texans think of taking a vacation, typically it’s out of state and with a more tropical feel - beach breeze and a coconut cocktail in hand with the kids playing in the sand. A picture-perfect vacation. But there is plenty to explore in our great state. Here are some of the Texas towns that are definitely worth your vacation days.

Dallas - Where the cosmopolitan ladies and fashion elite thrive, yet there are some great gems to explore for the entire family. The iconic Reunion Tower is the place to take in the cityscape in all its glory which is both romantic and awe inspiring. To get more into a funky and eclectic taste of the town, head over to Deep Ellum where microbreweries, artistic murals, and delectable delights call home. If you prefer more of the rustic boutiques mixed with Texan flair, then head over to Bishop Arts. Lastly, you can catch a free yoga class at Klyde Warren Park to take a minute to focus on your mindfulness.

Austin - The mecca of everything food and music, here is where you’ll get in touch with your creative side. There’s always an event at Zilker Park, and it is a great dog park for your fur family members. If you enjoy more historical site seeing, the Texas Capitol has artifacts and architecture that depicts the story of this great state. If you’re water lovers, then head to Lake Travis, with plenty of boat, jet ski, and kayak rentals. Lastly, it’s peak season to check out millions of bats flying out at the South Congress Avenue Bridge, which is considered a national phenomenon.

San Antonio - Ripe with Texan and Mexican history, this unique town infuses colorful cultures, music, architecture, and influences like none other, creating a memorable stay. From most notable, The Alamo, to the Riviera, restaurants, boutiques and river boat tours, you will surely fall in love. But for those wanting to relax in a picturesque setting, the hill country is where to be.

Houston - The coolest place to check out is NASA's Space Center Houston, which houses a museum and active space control center. The family also can enjoy the Downtown Aquarium that has a small theme park attached and Shakespeare in the park at Memorial Park.

Galveston - All I have to say is beach therapy can do a world of wonder. There’s also the great boardwalk called Pleasure Pier with plenty of restaurants, shops, and games as well! Don't forget to visit La King's Confectionary for homemade ice cream, displays of candy and fudge, and some of the best salt water taffy around!

There you have it, vacation not too near, not too far, yet a healthy dose of relaxation, curiosity, and fun. Enjoy the summer while it lasts!
